　　春節是中國最重要，也是最熱鬧的古老節日之一。春節象征著團結、興旺以及對未來寄予新的.希望。據記載，中國人過春節已有四千多年的歷史。中同是個多民族的國家，各民族(nationality)過春節的形式各有不同。但是無論在中國的哪個地方，人們都會在春節期間全家團圓，吃年糕(New Year cake)，餃子以及各種豐盛的飯菜。人們張燈結彩，燃放鞭炮，并互相祝福。

　　春節是中國人一年中的第一個傳統佳節。過去，春節被稱為“新年”，因為按照中國一直沿用的農歷，這天是正月初一，為新一年的開頭。據記載，中國人民過春節已有4000多年的歷史，它是由虞舜興起的`。公元前兩千多年的一天，舜即天子位，帶領著部下人員，祭拜天地。從此，人們就把這一天當作歲首，算是正月初一。據說這就是農歷新年的由來，后來叫春節。1911年辛亥革命后，中國采用公歷紀年，農歷新年便改稱“春節”。

In the past years, Spring Festival was called “new year”, for this day was the first day of the lunar month according to the lunar calendar which had long been used in China, so it was the beginning of a new year. He led his men to hold a ceremony in honor of Heaven and Earth. From then on, people saw that day as the beginning of the year, i.e. the first day of the lunar month. This is said to be the origin of the lunar new year, which was called Spring Festival later. After the Revolution of 1911, China began to number the years according to the Gregorian calendar, and it was then that the lunar new year began to be called Spring Festival.

　　春聯(Spring Festival couplets)，是中國特有的一種文學形式，有著悠久的歷史。春聯上的文字簡潔、精巧，象征著人們對未來的巨大期盼，表達人們對新年的美好愿望。貼春聯是春節的一大傳統習俗，也是中國人歡度新年春節的重要方式。每逢春節，無論在城市還是農村，家家戶戶都要精心挑選一副大紅春聯貼在門上為節日增加喜慶(festive)氣氛。各家各戶會根據自家的情況選擇不同內容的春聯，比如商人的'家庭會張貼與發財有關的春聯，農民家庭則選擇表達豐收愿望的春聯。
