On the Senior Empty Nests
For most senior students in universities, the last academic year has nothing to do with academics. To the frustration of professors, few courses are attended by students. And dorms are almost vacant with few lodgers. This kind of phenomenon, which has been called “Senior Empty Nests”, is common among universities of China.
Where have those absent senior students gone? Some lucky dogs have gone to their new jobs while the majority are still striving to get a job or engaging in their internship outside of the campus. The severe employment pressure has pushed senior students into employment market earlier. The anxiety of getting a job before graduation disturbs the restless mind of every student, which leads to skipping school of most students.
In my view, with senior students leaving campus earlier, their time of education has been reduced, which puts them in a disadvantaged position in the employment market. Students should start job hunting after finishing the courses of the last academic year. At the same time, the universities should provide career education for senior students.

Nowadays, college students are required to take part in some social practice, such as being an assistant in companies, or doing surveys, especially during the holidays. Social practice is gradually becoming more essential for China’s higher education. However, social practice has both advantages and disadvantages for college students.
On the one hand, it provides students more opportunities to contact with the real world off-campus;Besides, it helps students to grasp some practical skills, especially communication skills, which is an essential supplement to on-campus study; Moreover, social practice can widen students’ vision. On the other hand, the negative effects can not be neglected: students’ major task is learning knowledge, while curiosity about off-campus world may distract them; Sometimes social practice is even treated unseriously and becomes a waste of time;Furthermore, the students may be faced with dangers unexpectedly.
Despite the potential negative effects of social practice, I strongly support social practice for college students, since as a whole,the benefits overwhelm the likely harm. Two heads are better than one, if students, schools, and the society join hands together, social practice can be carried out more effectively
and better armed students for the society can be expected.

My father used to talk to me about his five siblings. He used to say that I was unfortunate that I had none. Of course I have classmates and friends, but they are different. Sometimes I feel so pessimistic that after my parents leave the world, I will have no blood relatives left to share with me the fond memories of my parents. So, I am happy but lonely; I am fortunate but piteous; I am loved but spoiled; I am well-bred but selfish, because I am the only child of the family.
